Stefanovic, who quit Nine in December after much speculation bosses were going to axe him, appeared on Sky News’ The Front Page with Peter Gleeson last night to discuss his life after Today.

Stefanovic shared with Gleeson that he was using the time off to ‘reset’.

When Gleeson asked how Stefanovic was coping, the journalist confessed: “Well, you know, it hasn’t been without its challenges, that’s for sure.

“Believe it or not, I’m usually quite a shy sort of person, so seeing so much negativity play out in the press for weeks and months on end does have its challenges and can be difficult to deal with at times.”

According to news.com.au, industry rumours abounded that Nine’s bosses blamed the Stefanovic brothers for airing the networks dirty laundry after a loaded Uber conversation was leaked in March the last year.

In the leaked conversation Peter was caught airing his grievances to his brother Karl about the Nine network and there Today show colleagues, while his wife and former Today newsreader Sylvia Jeffreys was on speakerphone.

According to news.com.au, a Nine insider said that the Uber scandal was to blame for Peter’s demise at the network.

Despite the axing of Karl Stefanovic and other familiar faces leaving the show to make way for a Today reinvention, Peter told Gleeson that his focus now was work.

Stefanovic said: “I had 15 wonderful years at Channel 9 now this a great opportunity to kind of reset and try new projects, which is very exciting.”
