Friends confirm to New Idea that the romance crumbled over Stedman’s growing jealousy and claims that he ‘wasn’t a priority’ for the talk-show host, with one pal then revealing that he had ‘finally had enough’.

Oprah was notably absent from her estranged fiance’s recent 66th birthday party, with Stedman taking to social media the day after his huge bash to post several bitter messages – believed to be about the downfall of their relationship.

‘You can never be free carrying the energy of hate!!’ he wrote in one poignant post, declaring in another: ‘Negative energy will always be your enemy and downfall.’

Tellingly, Oprah hasn’t posted any pictures of Stedman on social media in six months – and he was a no-show during her recent boating trip with former US President Barack Obama, with the TV icon choosing to take along her long-term friend Gayle King instead.

Stedman has had enough, plain and simple,’ the source says. ‘He’s been sitting in the background their entire relationship, while she just calls the shots. He really thought that after she quit the show, she would make more time for him.

‘But things couldn’t be further from the truth. The final straw was when she forgot his birthday and invited Gayle away with the Obamas instead of him. They had some big arguments after that, and he finally called it quits. But it’s been a long time coming – that’s for sure.’

Adds another source: ‘The whole birthday thing was a fiasco. Everyone’s convinced she forgot. There was no mention to him online and the next day he’s spouting about anger and rising above it.

‘It’s easy to see why he’d have had enough after three decades. Not acknowledging his birthday is just the latest in a long line of disappointments for him.’
