What a sad outcome

Oprah Winfrey’s ‘secret son’ Calvin Mitchell, whom she helped raise and wanted to adopt in the 90s, is destitute and begging for help from the billionaire TV titan.

Calvin, now 37, was just 11 when he offered her a cold soft drink on a Chicago movie set. The kind gesture created a loving relationship that prompted Oprah to try and adopt him – but his biological mother refused to separate him from his siblings.

While generous Oprah picked up the tab for him to attend a posh private school, she withdrew her support “when he failed to meet her standards” of behaviour, according to US magazine National Enquirer

Since then, Calvin’s attempts at reconciling with her have gone unheard, culminating in an embarrassing face-to-face reunion outside a New York City theatre in 2015, when Oprah waved him off saying she had no time to talk. In her defence, the confrontation was being secretly filmed and Oprah immediately twigged she was possibly being set up.

The humiliating incident reportedly devastated father-of-two Calvin and sent him into a deep depression compounded by drugs. To make matters worse, his employer went out of business leaving him unemployed and finally homeless.

“I’ve been smoking crack. I’ve been smoking weed. I’ve been doing everything!” he told National Enquirer. “If Oprah ever cared about me, ever, I’m asking her for help. I’m asking for counselling – for anything she can provide.”

Despite her $3billion fortune, Oprah, 63, has denied he’s her son, however Calvin’s biological mother Eva regrets the day he ever laid eyes on her. “Calvin can’t keep a job and he’s depressed all the time,” Eva told National Enquirer. “I can truly say that if Calvin had never met Oprah, his life would be entirely different right now.”
