Uh oh… She’s not put a foot wrong since officially joining the royal family in 2011, but Kate Middleton may have landed herself in hot water with the Queen while on tour in Canada.
Emerging from their plane after touching down on Canadian soil, The Duchess was spotted crouching down to speak to son Prince George, three – the very move William was publicly scolded for in June!
Crouching down to speak to George while on the balcony of Buckingham Palace during this year’s Trooping the Colour, video emerged of the Queen tapping William on the shoulder and firmly telling him to stand up.
But while the Queen may have dubbed the moving a royal faux pas, parenting experts say the technique, known as ‘active listening’, is an effective way to communicate with kids.
‘Active listening is one of the most important ways you can send the message, “You’re important to me.” Get down on the child’s level, lean in and make eye contact,’ child development expert Gill Connell told People magazine. ‘These simple messages foster self-esteem in powerful ways while encouraging him to communicate even more.’
While George and his sister Charlotte, 16 months, have not been seen on tour since they arrived, they are expected to make a public appearance with their parents later this week.
