Devastated Olivia Newton-John has revealed her breast cancer has returned and she is seeking treatment in Melbourne.
The Australian superstar, 68, who canceled her concert tour early in May due to sciatica pain, revealed on her social media site that the situation was much more serious.
A statement posted this morning read: “The back pain that initially caused her to postpone the first half of her concert tour, has turned out to be breast cancer that has metastasized to the sacrum. In addition to natural wellness therapies, Olivia will complete a short course of photon radiation therapy and is confident she will be back later in the year, better than ever, to celebrate her shows.”
Olivia added: “I decided on my direction of therapies after consultation with my doctors and natural therapists and the medical team at my Olivia Newton-John Cancer Wellness and Research Centre in Melbourne, Australia.”
The Grease legend was first treated for breast cancer in 1992, when she underwent a partial mastectomy, chemotherapy and breast reconstruction.
A family insider tells New Idea: “Olivia’s not making a big deal of this and it approaching it like it’s nothing more than a little task she has to do, but this situation is no joke.”
“The fact it’s spread to her spine is bad news. It’s almost cruel that she cut short her tour to promote her album ‘Liv On’ about overcoming breast cancer and losing her sister to brain cancer [in 2013].”
The insider adds: “Olivia’s having none of it when it comes to misery and negativity.”
“She’s being incredibly strong and brave – like the inspiration she’s always been.”
