It was the most explosive Offspring episode since Patrick tragically died in a car accident.
The first installment of the highly anticipated season six began with the death of family patriarch Darcy Proudman (John Waters).
Offspring’s script producer and head writer Jonathan Gavin told News.com.au, killing off Darcy wasn’t an easy decision.
‘Because it’s been two years since the audience last saw Nina and the Proudman family there was a feeling that we needed a major event to bring everybody back together,’ he said. ‘And also, in a way, to set up all of the momentum and collisions that were going to give an arc to series six.
‘We realised the death of a parent is, of course, a major event in anybody’s life — but in that family the place that Darcy holds can’t be filled by anybody else. So it’s an incredible change to the geography of the family and it sends everybody off into new directions.
But the drama didn’t end there…it turns out the lawyer who Darcy had contracted to write up his will is also Will (TJ Bowen) – his secret son!
‘He says, “I’m your father”,’ Will tells Nina (Asher Keddie).
In classic Proudman fashion, things came to a dramatic head at Darcy’s wake with Geraldine (Linda Cropper) pelting tacos at Will’s mum and adulterer Marjorie.
‘I thought we’d already had all our big family secrets,’ Billie says to her siblings.
In other news, it seems Nina and Leo (Patrick Brammall) have split so the quirky doctor is back on the market!
What will these new revelations mean for the Proudman clan?
