Nicole Kidman has hit back after an interviewer quizzed her about her husband Keith Urban’s longtime battle with drugs and alcoholism.

During an interview with Jenni Murray for BBC Radio 4’s Woman’s Hour, the 49-year-old actress was discussing her role in new film Lion when the conversation was steered to a more sensitive subject.

“God you guys are personal,” she responded frostily when asked how she’d helped her country crooner husband fight his addiction.

“That’s for him to talk about. He’s always said that I can talk about it publicly because he’s very much about helping people.”

“I think our marriage is an example of working our way through it with an outcome where you can be together where he’s sober and very happy.”

But despite the mum-of-four’s hesitation to reveal too much, Murray pursued her questioning and asked Nicole to what extent she had to take a backseat and let Keith deal with the matter himself.

“We could do a whole programme,” she replied. “There’s different ways. I am very much involved in supporting and loving and I know a lot about it.

“But it’s not something I can put in a catchphrase… I don’t believe you can save a person.”

Nicole and the 49-year-old singer married in 2006, just three months before Keith checked in to rehab for the third time to tackle his drug and alcohol abuse.

The couple share two children daughters, 5-year-old faith Margaret and 8-year-old Sunday Rose.
