No more red carpet smooches and big awards night moments… Nicole Kidman has announced the shock decision to quit Hollywood, after her ‘disappointing’ Oscars loss.
The 49-year-old was reportedly left devastated when she narrowly missed out on picking up her second Academy Award after being an early favourite to take home the coveted gong.
As a result, Nicole has made the snap decision to move back to Australia with husband Keith Urban and their two daughters, and she’s desperate to buy a Queensland estate that they can now call home.
The star was caught on camera at the Oscars last week telling Jennifer Aniston her plans.
‘Nicole has started to realise that she’s put her career before family for too long now,’ says an insider. ‘She campaigned so heavily for an Oscar for Lion, she really thought she had it in the bag–so to come home empty-handed was a real wake-up call for her.
‘She and Keith have already decided to have a baby in 2017 – and now she’s planning to walk away from Hollywood altogether. She’s fed up with the long hours of filming, the constant red carpets and all the politics of Hollywood.

‘Both she and Keith want their kids to have the type of childhood they did – running around outside in the sunshine, close to their families.’
Two independent sources in Keith’s home town of Caboolture, a quiet community in southern Queensland, have confirmed the couple are actively hunting for a stunning bush property, where they’ll live with their daughters Sunday, eight, and Faith, six.
It’s believed the superstar couple are eyeing up two of the grandest properties within the ultra-private, gated community of Thornhill Heights in Rocksberg, which is lush horse and cattle country.
A New Idea investigation reveals that one of the places they are said to be considering is a four-bedroom, 3.2-hectare home on top of a hill, with panoramic views over the iconic Glass House Mountains all the way across to Moreton Bay and Caloundra. Featuring a tennis court and wine cellar, the luxury estate – valued at around $1.3 million – also features a cattle paddock and a billabong.
‘It certainly is a property that would suit the rich and famous,’ admits Re/Max Legacy real estate director Matthew Thomson.
‘It’s so private that most people in town don’t even know this estate exists. It’s got gated security, a 2km private driveway, plus the home itself has a security system. There’s room to build a helicopter pad to the right of the house too.’
It’s believed that Keith, 49, secretly inspected properties horse and cattle country.
Insiders close to the couple say the move stems from their wish to be closer to Keith’s mum Marienne, who, after the 2015 death of her husband Robert, now lives alone in a three-bedroom home on the Sunshine Coast’s Mountain Creek.
‘Marienne has listed her own property, which Keith bought for her and Bob several years ago. She’s in her 70s now, and has been complaining that her house is too big for one person, so she told Keith she wants to downsize,’ says the Urban family insider.
‘That really hit home for Keith. Losing Bob crushed him, and he wants to do anything he can for his mum in her twilight years.’
