Nicole Kidman has divulged some of her biggest marriage secrets in a telling new interview.
Opening up about her husband Keith’s battle with substance abuse, the actress says she was forced to issue the country singer with a shock ultimatum – get help or get out!
‘You can’t save somebody, they’ve got to save themselves,’ the 49-year-old tells Entertainment Weekly. ‘At some point, you just have to say: “I love you and I’m here when you decide to do the work. If you don’t, then that’s it.”’
Battling his addiction from the early 1990s, Nicole’s ultimatum came just four months into their marriage, with Keith checking into the Betty Ford Center in Palm Springs for a recurring problem with alcohol abuse in 2007.
‘It’s not easy,’ says Nicole of loving an addict. ‘But there’s an extraordinary life if you do get there through help.’
