Winning an Oscar should have been the happiest moment in Nicole Kidman’s life, but the actress says it was the quite the opposite.
Speaking at a Q&A session at the BFI London Film Festival she said the weeks after winning the Best Actress accolade at the 2002 Academy Awards she was crippled with ‘loneliness’.
‘Winning the Oscar was a turning point, but not in terms of my life as an actor, because it was incredibly validating, but it actually symbolised loneliness to me because I didn’t have anyone to share it with at that stage in my life.
‘I was like, “Wow, this means I need to get my act together and I want to fall in love” so it was weird.’
The win came a year after her divorce with actor Tom Cruise. Now, 49, Kidman is happily married to singer Keith Urban.
