Detectives at Scotland Yard received a tip that a gang of European traffickers snatched the toddler from her family’s holiday apartment in Portugal in 2007 after taking pictures of her.

The Home Office reportedly granted a further £95,000 (approximately $162,000) to keep the investigation going another six months.

The new lead comes nearly ten years after her disappearance.

Senior officers have reportedly admitted this is the “last throw of the dice” in the investigation.

“This is an important new line of inquiry which could provide an explanation on whether Madeleine was abducted and transported away,” a source tells The Sun.

“It raises hope that she could still be alive.”

The case will be reviewed again in April.
