Officials have determined that MTV’s Danny Dias died from “complications of chronic substance abuse.”
This comes after the Road Rules star and New Jersey native was found unresponsive in his apartment in Brooklyn back in June with “two vertical lacerations to his forearm.”
At the time, TMZ reported that the 34-year-old’s death was being treated as a suicide.
Speaking with PEOPLE, a New York City Chief Medical Examiner has since refuted these claims, finding that Dias died of natural causes related to years of drug addiction. The coroner also concluded that the reality TV star did not suffer from an overdose.
It’s believed that a friend of Dias’ raised the alarm with police after they hadn’t heard from him in several days.
“We are saddened by the news of Danny Dias’ passing,” MTV said in a statement.
“Our thoughts are with the Dias family during this difficult time.”
Dias made his MTV debut back in 2004 in the 13th season of the show and later went on to appear in spin-off The Challenge: Gauntlet 2.
