David and Betty have been slammed as cheats and liars in My Kitchen Rules’ latest showdown.

The best friends from Sydney have come under fire from the other teams for their deceptive ways, accused of sabotage and manipulating others to their own advantage.

‘Sometimes David would lie,’ Ros, 56, tells New Idea.

‘I think they were very focused and they definitely knew they wanted to go far in the competition. They probably did everything in their power to make sure that was going to happen.

‘David, particularly, was very driven. Because they were from Sydney and we were filming in Sydney, they would spend time with relatives that have a restaurant. They spent a lot of time around people who were going to help them out.’

Brisbane contestant Amy, 30, agrees, telling New Idea: ‘David and Betty would do anything they could do to get as far as they could in the competition. There was a bit of tension between us and David and Betty.

‘They’re very good at the talk, and they like to manipulate situations and get under the skin of other contestants by dropping tidbits of information – whether they’re correct or not – whereas I wouldn’t take anything they said seriously.

‘Other contestants would take things they’d say seriously and then they’d come to me and say: “Oh, David and Betty have said this,” and I’d tell them not to listen to them.’

During one incident, David, 32, and Betty, 27, were accused of lying when they claimed to be partying all night at the casino – but they were at home cooking.

‘They were doing a sudden death the next day against Bek and Ash and he said that he’s been to the casino the night before, but I don’t think that was actually true,’ Ros tells New Idea.

‘I think there were a couple of times that they said they were out, but I don’t think they were really. We all lived in the same apartment block and you knew which ones were occupied with someone cooking, because you could smell all these beautiful smells. The smells were always a dead giveaway.’

However, the controversial couple have hit back at the contestants’ claims they lied their way through MKR, saying they were competitive but never underhanded.

‘We always played the competition with integrity,’ David says.
