With $250,000 prize money up for grabs, My Kitchen Rules stars David and Betty are quickly learning that their game plan needs to rely on much more than just their cooking prowess.

In fact, their secret weapon is a much more intimate affair: a hug.

In Tuesday night’s episode, the NSW pair wrapped openly body contact phobic Amy up in an embrace in an effort to throw off her performance with her brother Tyson.

Although they are currently trailing behind on the leaderboard, the friends arrived first on the night and made sure to give their host “the biggest hug and kiss” in an effort to make her feel as awkward as possible.

“It was like invading her personal space,” Tyson said, narrating the moment to the cameras.

His partner Betty also admitted the aggressive display of affection was, “a little bit uncomfortable, yeah.”

In the second episode of the series, Amy shared her phobia of hugging saying “You don’t want too much body on body.”

But despite this, last night the Brisbane woman surprised her guests by handling her social anxiety with ease.

“I get quite awkward with greeting people,” Amy admitted.

“I never know if you’re going in for one kiss on the cheek? Is it a hug? How long do you hold the hug? I really struggle.”
