Acclaimed Hollywood actor Martin Landau has died at the age of 89.
The star – best known for his Oscar-winning performance in Ed Wood – passed away on Saturday due to ‘unexpected complications’ after a brief hospital stay, his rep has confirmed.
Brooklyn-born Landau began his career at the New York Daily News as a staff cartoonist and illustrator when he was just 17.
But it was in 1957 that he first garnered attention as an actor after making his Broadway debut in Middle of the Night.
He later went on to star in Alfred Hitcock’s North by Northwest and Cleopatra, before turning to the small screen in Mission: Impossible where he received three Emmy Awards and a Golden Globe in the role of Rollin Hand.
Most recently, Landau played an Auschitz survivor in the 2015 movie Remember alongside the likes of Christopher Plummer, Henery Czerny and Liza Balkan.
His final project, The Last Poker Game, premiered at the 2017 Tribeca Film Festival.
Many have taken to Twitter to pay tribute to the Landau, with fellow actor and Stranger Things star David Harbour remembering him as a “brilliant craftsman.”
He is survived by two daughters, a sister and an eight-year-old granddaughter.
