Speaking with the Sunday Times, the 38-year-old revealed how the couple had learned to cope with their loss.

“One thing you do learn is how many other people have had to go through the same,” he said.

But aside from finding solace in knowing they were not alone in their grief, Mike confessed that it was their three-year-old daughter Mia who had supported them most in their time of need.

“The saving grace for us has been Mia,” he admitted.

“However down we feel she will come running up in our faces. When I was playing I hardly saw her; now we can see her grow up. I can take her swimming and I can take her to Ninja Tots. You’ll never be able to see her there because she disappears in a puff of smoke.”

A royal spokeswoman for the pair announced that the Queen’s granddaughter Zara, 35, had miscarried on Christmas Eve last year, less than one month after it was first revealed they were expecting their second child.

“Very sadly, Zara and mike Tindall have lost their baby,” she said in a statement.

“At this difficult time we ask that everyone respects their privacy.”

Although no further details about the circumstances surrounding the incident were disclosed, it is believed that the equestrian champion was about four-months pregnant at the time.
