Stricken former Formula One great Michael Schumacher is again back in the headlines, with his son breaking his silence about the legend – who remains in strict seclusion after suffering horrific head injuries in a skiing accident.
While mystery surrounds the exact nature of the star’s injuries, he has not appeared in public since 2013, and according to German media reports, it is claimed that he requires around-the-clock care.
Until today, the ultra-private Schumacher family’s only comment on the tragedy has been to describe it as ‘very sad’.
But the star’s son Mick Schumacher, 19, has today broken his silence over the man he calls his ‘role model’, as his own driving career revs into high gear. And he’s proud to set the record straight on the place his beloved father holds in his heart.
While training in Austria, the Formula 3 driver said, ‘My role model is my dad. Simply because it is the best. My idol.’
He now says his aim is to be a Formula One World Champion – something his father would no doubt be very proud of.
The teen has been dubbed ‘Quick Mick’ by the German media after finishing second in the German and Italian F4 championships.
