Melanie ‘Mel B’ Brown has filed for divorce from her husband of nearly 10 years, Stephen Belafonte.
According to divorce papers obtained by PEOPLE, the former Spice Girl listed their date of separation as December 28 and asked for joint legal and physical custody of the couple’s five-year-old daughter Madison Brown Belfonte.
The singer has also requested for spousal support for her former lover to be terminated and has cited “irreconcilable differences “ as the reason for the split.
This comes just six weeks after the America’s Got Talent judge took to Instagram to gush about her husband.
“My baby boo @stephenthinks11,” she captioned the seemingly loved-up snap of the pair.
“We have been through everything that would normally tear couples apart and we have come out the other side stronger. You loved me before I even new how to really love myself, you are my world, honey.”
The star also added the hashtags: “#tenyearsmarried, #fightfortheoneyoulove,” and “#theysaiditwouldntlast.”
The couple wed in 2007 after just five months of dating.
Their reps are yet to comment on the news.
