Masterchef favourite George Calombaris is reportedly the subject of a police investigation after he was filmed pushing a fellow attendee at a football match in Sydney on Sunday night.
‘A 19-year-old man was allegedly assaulted by a 38-year old man after a football game,’ a police spokesperson has confirmed.
The altercation apparently occurred after a man was reportedly heard to shout, ‘Pay your staff, you dodgy b*****d,’ causing the TV chef to angrily storm into the crowd, confronting a fan.
The incident follows publicity over the star’s business underpaying staff by $2.6million. Calombaris promised to pay his staff, and publicly apologised.
But the star says there was more to the encounter than just jibes about his business practices.
‘I am really disappointed with what occurred last night,’ George said in a statement. ‘I regret the way in which I reacted, I am disappointed that I let it get to me, and I sincerely apologise for offending anyone.
‘While I am not proud of my reaction to the situation, I was offended by a spectator yelling out abusive and derogatory comments about my family.’
