Married At First Sight’s Scarlett Cooper has spoken out for the first time about the text scandal that rocked season four of the show.
At the time, viewers attacked Scarlett and fellow contestant Jonathan for ‘straying’ from their TV marriages after entrepreneur Jonathan was seen scrolling through hundreds of texts on his phone from Scarlett
The result led to Jonathan’s ‘wife’ Cheryl Maitland dumping him at a commitment ceremony during the show.
Uploading several screen shots of the message to social media, Scarlett attempted to explain the situation.
‘I care about others and I think we both needed a friend at that time. But that was it. Our whole conversation… We weren’t allowed to text people outside the show so was nice to have someone to talk to.
‘We realised what all of Australia could see, we were matched with the wrong people!… oh the sandal!’ she joked.
The focus of the texts appearing to be on their shared love of tea, as well as Jonathan complaining he had been paired with Cheryl.
He wrote: ‘I didn’t sleep with her’, ‘I asked her are you even attracted to me… she said “no”‘ and ‘this has been better conversation in just these msgs than all I have had in the last week.’
‘I feel like I have a better connection with her than Cheryl… we should have been matched. We would have been cute as s**t. Can we swap? Is that a thing?’ Jonathan said at the time.
