A bitter war of words has erupted between Married at First Sight wives Clare Verrall and Zoe Hendrix.
Season one star Zoe kicked off the social media stoush by launching an all-out attack at season two’s Clare, accusing her of slandering her TV ‘husband’ Jono for fame and money.
‘Jono is not a bad guy,’ she wrote in the Instagram post. ‘And after the most recent slander of him from his “ex wife” (in the interest of selling her wedding dress?) I need to get this off my chest.
‘Ok so it didn’t work out with his match for season 2 of MAFS and there are many reasons for that. He wasn’t perfect but neither was she. He has been gentleman enough to not air his exes dirty laundry to the public .
‘And iv met Jono and there are some interesting events that he has chosen to keep private. On the flip side the ongoing personal attacks to the public from his ex are both unfair & unwarranted. Would we think it was ok if the roles were reversed and a guy was constantly shaming or attacking his ex in this manner? (I don’t think so). Instead of getting bitter why not get better? His moved on and so should she.’
Hundreds of supporters of Jono and Clare’s rushed to the post to voice their opinions, some of them scathing – with fellow Season Two wife Erin Bateman even commenting ‘Seriously, can we be friends?’ to a random fan who wrote a particularly heated message against Clare.
Zoe – who’s expecting her first child with TV ‘husband’ Alex – then deleted all comments that supported Clare and blocked any fans who disagreed with her pro-Jono sentiments.
The move prompted Clare to defend herself on her own Instagram page, writing: ‘I don’t know Zoe or her motivations for last nights post. All I can say is that the post & comments greatly upset me. I don’t feel I have been saying awful things about Jono? The show, yes, but that is because I feel we were deliberately mismatched which I know was horrible for Jono as well. The whole thing just made me really sad. I don’t understand why women in particular can be so cruel to each other. We should be building each other up.
‘Luckily she has blocked me as well so at least I can’t torture myself further by reading any more comments so she did me a favour there. I wish her well & the best with her baby. I wish I had an experience like she did on the show.’
