Australian executives are said to be interviewing potential grooms to find someone open to the idea, Daily Mail Australia reveals.

An anonymous applicant told the publication he was asked if he was interested in dating a transgender woman in his audition, adding the interviewer seemed “surprised and disappointed” when he said he “wasn’t into it”.

Rumours of the plan surfaced in March, when application forms for season seven of the social experiment included additional gender options for the first time, Daily Mail Australia say.

“Please advise the type of person you are seeking to be matched with,” one of the personal questions read.

“For example, someone from the opposite sex, same sex or transgender/intersex/other.”

On Friday, Queensland former cast member Mick Gould took to social media to share a direct message he’d received from a follower, seemingly confirming the speculation that MAFS producers are hoping for a transgender bride.

“A fella from my town just had a Skype interview with MAFS and they are trying to get him to say yes to being open to marrying a transgender female,” he wrote on Instagram stories.

“Just thought I would let you know that next season is going to be crazy haha.”

Season six of Married At First Sight featured an array of outspoken personalities including makeup artists Martha Kalifatidis and Lauren Huntriss, legal assistant Ines Basic, office administrator Jessika Power, store manager Elizabeth Sobinoff and everyone’s favourite real-life couple, former cricket pro Cameron Merchant and beauty expert Jules Robinson.
