If there’s ever a way to make a wedding more dramatic (or awkward!), throwing an ex into the mix is definitely it.
During last night’s season premiere of Married At First Sight, viewers were introduced to entrepreneur Jonathan, who ‘married’ 25-year-old salon assistant Cheryl.
However, during their reception on top of Sydney Tower, the new bride was introduced to Jonathan’s ‘sister’… or so she thought.
“Hi I’m Emma – I’m Jonathan’s sister… I’m his little sister,” the blonde woman said, extending her hand out to the bride.
“No! She’s just a close friend!” Jonathon replied in a panic.
“How are you? do you want a hug?” Emma asked him.
“No, later. Later, Emmy, later. Later. Later,” he repeated over her demands to embrace.
But it wasn’t long before friends informed the bride of Emma’s true identity.
“Everyone’s like, ‘it’s his crazy ex-girlfriend!’ and I’m like ‘stop!’” Cheryl revealed in a piece to camera.
But the awkwardness of situation only continued to grow.
When asked off-air whether she thought Jonathan and Cheryl would last, Emma swiftly responded with: “Um, yeah, no,” before telling the show’s crew that Cheryl definitely isn’t right for Jonathan.
As she tried to swiftly exit after Cheryl’s sisters caught on to what she was saying, Emma tried to back track, telling Jonathon “I love you. I love you. And I don’t love you in a way that…” as the doors of the elevator shut.
Speaking with The Fix after the show went to air, Jonathan said he “wasn’t surprised by the reaction” of Emma who he says is “practically like a sister to me.”
