Married at First Sight: Jess’s hell as Dave labelled Australia’s biggest douche

Trouble in paradise

Two days after their ‘wedding’, Jess’ groom Dave is receiving backlash again, with one Australian news site labelling him ‘the biggest douchebag on Aussie TV’.

Tuesday night’s episode of Married at First Sight saw all the couples go on their honeymoons, with Jess and Dave venturing to Byron Bay.

The first activity – visiting Crystal Castle – didn’t go so well. ‘What the f*ck is going on there? Yeah it’s f*ckin weird. F*ckin Jesus,” Dave said of the experience. ‘This is f*cked.’

Speaking to the camera Dave reiterates again that Jess wasn’t what he was expecting.

‘This whole process is about being as honest as possible and, initially when I first saw Jess, I didn’t really know what to think,’ he says. ‘I suppose, I probably, I was obviously very open-minded about the whole thing. She’s definitely a bit different to girls I’ve dated in the past. I don’t know if I can see her physical attraction. Which I know is not everything in a relationship. But I think it’s definitely quite important.

‘I’m getting to know her personality … it’s … ah. I still think she’s a really nice girl … Look, just over the first couple of days on the honeymoon to be honest I don’t know if the signs are that great.”

Things took a dive for the worse when they took a surfing lesson together. Five-minutes in Dave ditched Jess, who was stuck in a rip. He later admits he ‘just actually forgot about her’.

‘I was kinda just left in the ocean to struggle with my board and the current to try and get back to where they were,’ said Jess. ‘I got dumped three times and my husband abandoned me in the ocean and walked off with our instructor.’

Making it to shore, Jess asked Dave to carry her board, but it was ‘too heavy’ for him.

Back at the house, Jess confronts Dave. ‘It’s been really hard for me to deal with how you were on the wedding day to how progressively you’ve gotten a lot colder to me, almost to the point of — whether or not it’s intentional — you’ve made me feel like an outsider,’ she said.

Dave responded by saying he doesn’t know how far they should take the relationship if there isn’t a connection.
