Mariah Carey drug shock

The star's meltdown has fans fearing for her health

Mariah Carey’s New Year’s Eve meltdown and subsequent dramatic retreat from the spotlight could have been made worse by a combination of booze and drugs, American magazine the National Enquirer sensationally alleges.

The 46-year-old singer is said to be dependent on prescription drugs including Zyprexa, Depakote and Ativan, claims the publication, along with marijuana and champagne. According to the report, there are now fears she could end up back in serious trouble if she doesn’t straighten out.

It’s been “a really bad year” for Mariah, who ended her engagement to billionaire businessman James Packer three months ago, say pals.

“Friends are worried sick that this, along with her drug use, will send her right over the edge,” a source tells the Enquirer. “Mariah seems to be paranoid and delusional, thinking that everyone is out to get her.

“Her behaviour is chillingly reminiscent of the way she was acting when she was committed to a psych ward,” says the source, referring to the time the singer was hospitalised in 2001 following an “emotional and physical breakdown.”

Mariah’s brother Morgan told the Enquirer in June that his sister mixes booze and prescription drugs, adding, “I can’t say that I have ever been around her when she was sober.”

Says the source, “Mariah is showing a lot of the same behaviour that led to her 2001 meltdown. She’s got an entirely new team around her – and they may not have her best interests at heart.”

During her disastrous “Rockin’ New Year’s Eve” live performance, Mariah mumbled to the crowd that she was “on a holiday too… can I not have off?”
