They were once the MAFS sweethearts that everyone couldn’t get enough of. Until things went sour after the cameras stopped rolling and Susan accused Sean of not being the person he pretended to be on TV – accusing him of sticking around on the show for the extra $200 a day.
But now Sean has responded, rubbishing her claims that he was just acting keen on the show for the sake of drama and dollars.
When asked by The Fix is he was really a different person on screen and off, as his TV ex claimed, Sean responded, ‘No. I feel that I’m just the same.
‘Susan and I haven’t seen each other in person since the experiment, since the reunion. We’ve spoken on the phone, but we haven’t seen each other in person.
‘Honestly, I don’t know what I’ve done wrong.
‘We were still talking up until probably halfway through the episodes aired, then she became hard to talk to.’
Speaking to news.com.au, Susan – who has been depicted as a cold heartbreaker – says that’s anything but the truth, and insists that it’s fiction that she strung Sean along before casually dumping him.
‘I wanted to leave half way through,’ she told the site. ‘His kids were crying to him on Skype: “Please come home daddy, we don’t really know why you’re away for so long”.
‘And I said, “No, you need to go, we’re just friends, you need to go”. And he’s like, “Nah, I need the money, I’m going to New Zealand in April on my first overseas trip ever. I need some spending money”.’
Responding to the allegation that his children, and his attitude to them, became an issue, Sean was dismissive.
‘No matter how long you’re going to be away [from your kids], they miss you. It wasn’t like what she was saying,’ he told The Fix.’
As for Susan’s decision to slate the show now it’s finished, Sean says that’s just whinging.
‘No matter what you do – and it’s the same as in a work force – you’re not going to keep everyone happy. There’s always someone who’s going to whinge.’
Insisting she gave it a red hot go despite everything, Susan alleges her polite offers to see Sean outside of filming were rebuffed, with lame excuses such as ‘I need to breed my horses’.
‘Because we were friends — we weren’t sleeping together, no matter what people thought — I felt, like, OK why not?’ she told news.com.au. ‘I thought, he is a good guy, he did stand up for what was right — on camera — he is a completely different person off camera.’
