Speaking with TV Week, the Melbourne-based carpenter revealed that the pressing family matter has become a “pretty big distraction” from his pursuit for love.

“It was hard to concentrate on the experiment when you had all that happening in the background,” he confessed. “It makes you a little on edge.”

“We’re still trying to pin point whether it’s motor neurone disease. He’s had a few specialist appointments and we’re still unsure.”

“There’s also a chance it may be spinal damage,” he added.

The 30-year-old admitted that the uncertainty of his father’s condition has stalled his plans to relocate to Sharon’s hometown of Perth.

“Dad’s supported me my whole life an I’ve gotta be there for him and know what’s really going on… If he’s in the clear, I might consider moving. But I just have to make sure he’s alright first,” he explained.

But in the interim, Sharon has offered to move Melbourne to be with her beau, a gesture that hasn’t gone unappreciated.

“I don’t think I’ve ever had anyone in my life offer to do something like that,” he said.

“It’s a lot of commitment for someone to say that. I felt really lucky and I’m not going to take that for granted.”
