Married At First Sight star Cheryl Maitland has hit back at critics in light of her new boyfriend’s scandalous past being revealed.
On Tuesday, Confidential reported that the 25-year-old jilted bride was dating Dean Gibbs, a disgraced former Victorian Police officer who had been convicted for drug trafficking and sentenced to 12 months behind bars in 2014.
Fans of the show were quick to weigh in on the revelation online.
“Lay down with dogs you get flees. Wonder if her dad would be proud of this one,” one commenter wrote on Sydney Confidential’s Facebook page.
“She doesn’t seem to have problems finding men… makes me wonder what her motive for MAFS was,” penned another.
Taking to social media, the Gold Coast hairdresser unleashed on the backlash.
“I think it needs to be said that everyone is their own person and can do as they please and if it has no direct impact on your life then shut the f*** up and keep your opinion to yourself,” she wrote.
This comes just days after Maitland gushed about her new-found love and lashed out at her former TV husband Andrew Jones on Instagram.
“And then there was you,” she wrote alongside a loved-up snap of the couple with the hashtag “thankgodhedidn’tpullouthisguitar.”
It’s believed Gibbs and Maitland began dating a month ago, shortly after filming for MAFS wrapped.
