Madonna has denied that she is adopting two more children from Malawi after rumours exploded that she had appeared before a High Court judge to finalise the process.
“I am in Malawi to check on the children’s hospital in Blantyre and my other work with Raising Malawi and then heading home,” the ‘Living for Love’ singer said in a statement on Wednesday [January 25]. “The rumors of an adoption process are untrue.”
Malawi government spokesman Mlenga Mvula told The Associated Press that Madonna had appeared before a High Court judge to file adoption papers earlier in the day on Wednesday and that she was awaiting the court’s decision, which would take about a week.
The African nation of Malawi is where two of Madonna’s four children were born.
She adopted David in 2006 and Mercy in 2007 – they’re both 11 now. She’s also mom to daughter Lourdes, 20, and Rocco, 16.
Madonna, 58, has helped to fight poverty among the country’s orphaned children through her Raising Malawi charity.
