Alene and Simon may have escaped the worst of the MAFS train wreck, but Today host Lisa Wilkinson wasn’t prepared to let them leave the emotional war zone totally unscathed.
Interrogating the pair this morning, the host launched into a tirade after questioning Simon about the tacky implosion of Nadia and Anthony’s so-called ‘relationship’.
‘I’m not going to go knocking them, because if it’s not meant to be it simply wasn’t meant to be,’ Simon said, attempting his best to be diplomatic. ‘I don’t think he did anything intentionally.’
But Lisa wasn’t having anything of his tasteful restraint, trying her hardest to lead him into an ugly and judgmental analysis of the pair’s humiliating breakup.
‘You don’t think he was disingenuous when he said that beautiful speech to her and a day later once the cameras stopped rolling… ‘ she began, to which Simon responded, ‘I have to admit, I don’t know the full story here and that’s none of my business at the end of the day.’
It was then that Lisa decided to lay down the law, making it plain what she thinks of reality TV couples and their alleged obligations to the viewing public.
‘Sorry, it becomes our business when it’s on reality TV. Because we are all invested,’ she ranted.
‘Particularly for young girls who are watching how relationships are conducted, it’s kind of important that they learn lessons of what to do and what not to do and what to be careful of.’
Refusing to be another charred victim of Channel Nine’s so-called ‘social experiment’, Simon responded with admirable restraint.
‘I think as far as be male or female, trust your gut feeling as well. Don’t be led down the garden path as well,’ he wisely advised.
‘Just feel like you’ve got to settle. Nadia put her two bob’s worth in at the end as well and put her feelings out there as well.
‘Obviously it wasn’t meant to be.’
Aint that the truth!
