Liam Hemsworth Defends His 2012 Engagement to Miley Cyrus

Hemsworth reveals why he regrets nothing.

At the age of just 22, Liam Hemsworth got down on one knee and asked a 19-year-old Miley Cyrus to marry him. Unfortunately the engagement didn’t exactly go as planned and the couple later split in 2013. However, Liam has since defended his decision, revealing he doesn’t regret the proposal at all.

Whilst promoting his new movie Independence Day: Resurgence, Liam strongly defended his younger-self’s romantic proposal during a chat with News Corp Australia.

The 26-year-old said, “I don’t think that was impulsive. That was a well thought-out idea.”

Whilst the pair split and went their own ways for a few years after the engagement, they were occasionally spotted together and eventually rekindled their romance earlier this year.

Hemsworth therefore has reason to defend his decision. Despite the rocky road, the couple appear very much back on track. They were recently spotted holding hands in NYC, and Miley even posted a photo of herself in a t-shirt with ‘Hemsworth’ printed on the back.

Liam, who has never really revealed too much about his relationship with Miley, recently got uncharacteristically candid in a conversation with GQ.

“Of course it was hard, man. But at the time we were going in different directions and it’s just what needed to happen,” he explained about their breakup. “We were both super young and it was a good decision at the time—we both needed that.”

“I make my decisions about what’s going to make me happy, what I think is right and what I want to do—and I don’t worry too much outside of that.”

However, he went back to his reserved, more coy self when he was asked about the current state of their relationship, responding, “people will figure it out, they already have…They’re not dumb.”
