Lashing out at two of Australia’s most-loved stars in a sensational tirade, Kerry did not mince her words when taking aim at Kylie Minogue and Nicole Kidman in a 2004 interview with the Sunday Mail.

‘I truly believe with acting and singing, those two have done more damage than anyone I’ve ever seen,’ she said.

‘I really do believe there is a correlation with the despair we’re feeling and the fact that Kylie Minogue cannot sing. Why has she become a national icon? For achieving something that was beyond her ability.’

Next on Kerry’s firing line was Nicole, whose Hollywood career has only gone from strength to strength.

‘It’s the same with Nicole,’ she ranted. ‘The fact that Meryl Streep had to stand beside Nicole Kidman in The Hours, I just thought it was unbearable.’

While she never broke into Hollywood herself, Kerry has enjoyed a long-lasting career that has seen her take on a number of prestigious projects, such as films Lantana and Oyster Farmer as well as receive a Logie and two AFI Awards.

‘I have had to turn things down that could have brought me great financial freedom because I knew the audience would not appreciate them,’ the serious thespian once said.

‘For a girl who wanted to be Katharine Hepburn, this is certainly a turn in the wrong direction,’ she admits of her career trajectory.
