As her dream of a fairytale ending with Stu Laundy went up in flames, Bachelorette Sophie Monk has turned to another high-profile man in the wake of her sensational split – country singing legend Keith Urban!
Sources tell New Idea that the 38-year-old blonde has decided to put her search for Mr Right on hold after her failed romance with Stu, and is now focusing on reviving her music career in 2018. And it seems she’s turned to four-time Grammy winner Keith to help make her singing dreams come true.
‘They met in Los Angeles when Sophie was trying to forge a career in Hollywood, and they have stayed friendly over the years,’ says an insider. ‘With all the commotion caused by her appearance on The Bachelorette, Sophie has been thinking about getting out of Australia for a while. She has been doing a lot of crying on Keith’s shoulder.’
While Sophie got her break with pop band Bardot and had some early success, she’s relied on her TV and radio career since then to keep busy. But after her hopes of settling down and marrying Stu fizzled, she’s decided a career in country music is next on her agenda.
‘Sophie’s been telling him how she wants to be a country singer,’ says the source. ‘She’s got the looks and the voice, and Keith has invited her over to Nashville to spend some time in a recording studio. He has even offered to write a few songs for her.’
One person who isn’t too pleased about the prospect of Keith and Sophie working together? His wife of 11 years, Nicole Kidman, who will be spending the next few months away from their home in Nashville for the second season of Big Little Lies and also working on other film projects.
‘Nic overheard Keith talking to Sophie on the phone, and let’s just say she wasn’t too thrilled about the idea,’ the source tells. ‘She is not going to be home much and the last thing she wants is Sophie hanging around town while she isn’t there.’
But Nicole, 50, has nothing to worry about when it comes to Soph, who’s merely keen to learn from the best in the biz so she can carve out her own place in the competitive country world. And her admiration for Keith was clear back in 2016, when she interviewed him during her stint as a KIIS FM presenter.
Sharing a snap of them together on Instagram, Sophie wrote: ‘@keithurban is one the kindest artists I’ve met in Hollywood.’
The insider adds: ‘Sophie and Keith have been in touch here and there since then – she really respects him as a person and an artist, and she’s grateful that he’s helping her get her music career back on track.’
