Katie Holmes and Jamie Foxx were spotted out having a cozy drink in a bar in New York, however friends say don’t be fooled as the pair have no intention of ‘coming out’ as a couple just yet.
A new report in US Life & Style magazine says Jamie, 49, and Katie, 38, are keeping their near-four-year romance under wraps because of Katie’s ex-husband Tom Cruise.
“They’ve always feared Tom’s reaction,” a source told the magazine. “The last thing Katie needs is a custody battle of any sort. It’s easier to keep the relationship low-key.”
Jamie and Tom’s friendship goes way back to when they filmed 2004’s Collateral together and Tom introduced Katie to Jamie during the promotional tour of that film. Life & Style claims “Tom felt betrayed by Jamie” when news of their illicit fling broke a year after Katie blind-sided him with divorce papers in 2012.
“As much as Katie would like to go public, living the ultimate high-profile life with Tom taught her to keep her personal life beyond private,” adds the mag’s source. “They meet up late at night. This isn’t how she saw her life turning out but she loves Jamie.”
