Official statement: Kate’s huge pregnancy revelation

The Duchess of Cambridge has revealed she was banned from attending the Wimbledon final when she was eight months pregnant with Prince George.

In an incredibly candid interview for a new BBC documentary on tennis, the avid sports fan said she begged her doctor to let her attend the 2013 match between Andy Murray and Novak Djokovic, but was told “definitely not.”

The 35-year-old, who ended up giving birth just two weeks later, told presenter Sue Barker that she felt compelled to apologise to the Wimbledon champ for her absence.

“I was very heavily pregnant,” she explained in a preview clip.

“I wrote to him [Murray] afterwards saying sorry for not being there.”

Kate, who admits she first began following the sport as youngster, also shared her family’s most embarrassing tennis moments.

“Roger [Federer] is my mother’s heartthrob,” she said.

“I don’t think she will mind me saying that! I think he probably knows that too.”

The mother-of-two also recalled the moment her dad accidentally confused player Tim Henman with another player.

“My father is not going to appreciate this but we were walking past Tim Henman and had just seen Sampras play,” she said.

“My dad said ‘Hi Pete’. I was mortified.”
