Karl Stefanovic: Bizarre attack on car

The TV star’s estranged wife faces a new hell – this time in her own backyard

Cassandra Thorburn has come under fire again, as her divorce from Karl Stefanovic gets ugly.

The estranged wife of the Today host has received a lot of attention in recent months, following the announcement she had separated from her husband of 21 years last September.

Now, the mother-of-three has become the victim of a targeted attack – on her home turf.

New Idea has exclusively obtained photos of a car owned by the Stefanovic family, parked outside Cassandra’s home, with the rear window vandalised. Written in a chalk-like substance, the graffiti reads:
‘I wake up with Karl,’
which rips off the tagline
‘I wake up with Today,’
used by Channel Nine’s morning show.

An insider who lives on the same street spotted the cruel vandalism and was appalled that something this horrible would occur on the family-friendly street they all share together.

‘I was so shocked! It was very confronting. That kind of stuff doesn’t happen in our street,’ the concerned insider reveals. ‘I can’t imagine anyone from our street would do it. There aren’t even any silly teenagers! I feel so sorry for Cassandra. You’re supposed to feel safe where you live. This attack is showing her: “Hey, I know where you live.”’

The fact that it was written on 44-year-old Cassandra’s car has inflamed speculation that the graffiti was written by someone who knew Karl.

‘Cassandra’s other car wasn’t out the front, so she wasn’t home. It was written in that pen that’s chalky – a chalk maker – so it seems really calculated and premeditated,’ the insider describes.

‘They knew she wasn’t home.’

As soon as Karl and Cassandra’s separation was announced, the couple’s family home was put on the market.

Will this new attack force Cassandra and her kids out of the family home sooner than expected?

‘Even if she does move, I don’t think she’ll feel safe wherever she moves to,’ says the insider.

‘Someone will always have tabs on them, which is exactly what they didn’t want because Karl always tried to keep a low profile. He tried to act like your average dad in the street, but he’s a pretty big deal – especially at the moment.’

After spotting the graffiti in the early afternoon, when the insider returned home some hours later, the writing had been removed.

‘Someone is trying to attack her,’ speculates the source.
