Former Today Show host Karl Stefanovic is facing drama yet again, after a sometimes-tense interview with radio host Steve Price.

Speaking about the fraught issue of tourists climbing Uluru, despite the requests of the site’s indigenous custodians, Karl got into a stoush over the issue.

‘You should not be climbing the rock, come on Steve, why do you need to climb it?’ Karl noted on The Steve Price Show.

Ever the controversialist, Price backed Pauline Hanson’s view that tourists should be able to climb the monolith, despite the advice and concern of indigenous people that they shouldn’t.

‘But why do you need to climb it?’ Karl replied.

‘Remember when [Alan Jones] Jonesy, AJ was criticising the toaster building. He said ”the only way to get around this is to live inside it so I don’t have to look at it”,’ Stefanovic said.

‘Well when you’re on Uluru, you can’t see it, you just look at the outside of it.’

The pair then argued about the wrongs and rights of climbing various objects around the world – most of them man-made and with no cultural sensitivities.

Karl then responded by ‘joking’ that Steve was a racist.

‘I think you’re a disgrace Steve Price for your comments this morning, you’re racist,’ he said, apparently light heartedly.

Taking a more serious tone, the host then explained why climbing the rock was a very poor choice.

‘I have no desire to climb it, I fully respect the significance of it, it’s not our place to climb,’ he said.

‘And secondly I have no desire to climb it because it’s so hot out there, there are that many flies.’

Price in turn dismissed the very valid reasons as being ‘a bit PC’.

‘I have had a lot of time off to think about these things and I’m not PC,’ Karl quipped.
