Karl Stefanovic has been rocked by a shock pregnancy showdown just months into his new relationship with model Jasmine Yarbrough.
Sources tell New Idea that the 42-year-old Today host was ‘completely caught unaware’ when his new girlfriend broke her baby news to him, revealing that she was desperate to fall pregnant in the next two years.
At age 33, friends say Jasmine is ‘anxious’ about the nine-year age gap between her and Karl – especially given his split from wife Cassandra Thornburn just five months ago – but wanted to make sure he was aware of her plans for a family before their relationship became too serious.
‘Jasmine isn’t naive,’ says a friend of the model-turned- shoe designer. ‘She knows that Karl has just come out of a really long marriage and has three kids [aged 16, 11 and 10].
‘He’s in his 40s, and there’s a good chance that babies and marriage is the last thing on his mind right now.’
Another source explains: ‘Of course Jas is going to want kids. Why wouldn’t she? And especially with Karl, who can offer her stability. But more importantly, she knows he is already a great dad and loves that about him.
‘A lot of her mates from school have started to have kids in the last couple of years. She is one of the last in that group who doesn’t have children.’
Friends of the Logie winner say that, while he was taken aback by the confronting conversation, he was happy to talk it over with his beautiful blonde girlfriend.
‘When Karl told us about Jasmine’s conversation about wanting a baby, he couldn’t believe it,’ said a source close to the father. ‘He’s only just got out of a marriage – he loves being a dad, but it is pretty soon to be discussing babies with Jasmine.
‘He could see where she was coming from though. She’s 33, and doesn’t want to waste time in a relationship with someone who’s not on the same page.
‘Karl is totally smitten with Jasmine and told her he’s definitely serious about moving forward with her. But he’s convinced her just to have fun and let the relationship play out as it’s meant to play out.’
