Television presenter Karl Stefanovic has put on a brave face on Today this morning, following reports he split with his wife of 21 years, Cassandra Thorburn.
The Sunday Telegraph reports Stefanovic, 42, has moved out of the family home and is now staying in friend James Packer’s Bondi apartment.
The couple have three children – Jackson, 16, Ava, 11, and 10-year-old River – together.
News.com.au reports friends of the couple are shocked by the news of the separation, but it’s understood they are trying to work through their problems.
Stefanovic met Thorburn met in 1990s after he moved to Rockhampton to work as a reporter. He claims he was immediately smitten with her.
‘She told me I look like a preppy. She said, “I suppose that’s how you got your job in television, because of your pretty-boy looks”.’
‘It took me a while to track her down afterwards, but I did,’ he said.
Stefanovic famously praised his wife last year for giving up her career as an ABC reported to raise their kids.
‘She gave up a promising career at the ABC and I’m forever thankful and tremendously appreciative of that,’ he told the Sunday Herald in 2015.
‘Cass wanted to be at home, and wants to be there now, and we’re very lucky to be in a financial position where we can do that.’
Radio presenter Ben Fordham told the Sydney Morning Herald, ‘There’s no question that Cass is a crucial ingredient in Karl’s success.’
‘I think she’s ambitious for him … because she wants the best for Karl and she knows how talented he is.’
