Fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld has died at age 85 after weeks of ill health, according to reports from France.
The shocks news comes after the Chanel designer missed his end-of-show-bow at Paris Fashion Week in January because he was unable to attend.
At the time, the French fashion house released a statement explaining that Lagerfield was feeling tired.
The statement from Chanel read: “Mr Lagerfeld, artistic director of Chanel, who was feeling tired, asked Virginie Viard, director of the creative studio of the house, to represent him.”
The German born fashion designer began his career with Chanel in 1983.
Lagerfeld died on February 19, French magazine Closer reports.
Lagerfeld was known for his iconic dark sunglasses, grey ponytail and monochrome outfits.

While the cause of death is yet to be confirmed, according to the Mirror sources close to the fashion legend have revealed he was rushed to hospital amid a secret battle with pancreatic cancer.

A source told the Mirror: “He hadn’t gone on about his illness, but battled it very bravely,
“Karl was very proud of his fitness and healthy living, so the pancreatic cancer came as a huge shock.”
According to sources, Karl has not been doing well since 2017 when rumours first began circulating of his ill-health.
“You can feel the winding down in-house,” the source told Town & Country. “It definitely feels like an era is coming to an end.”
Chanel has confirmed that their couturier Karl Lagerfeld passed away early Tuesday, February 19.
