Judge Judy admits her marriage is a “work in progress” after her husband allegedly had a fling with a waitress, US Closer magazine is reporting today. And the star now says her personal happiness has come from not depending on any man.
The 74-year-old legal eagle, who reportedly discovered Jerry hooked up with a woman 25 years his junior, admits their relationship hasn’t always been plain sailing.
“It’s always a work in progress,” she told the publication. “You just have to keep plugging away at it.”
And for Judy that has involved more time pursuing her own path. ‘I’m convinced independence is a woman’s only path to happiness,’ she says.
Sources say the star didn’t see the affair coming and felt she didn’t have anyone to turn to when she discovered the truth about Jerry’s antics.
“Judy was blind-sided by his betrayal, and her heart was broken,” an insider told the publication. “She felt scared and alone. She’s always been a strong woman is usually gets her way. But now there is a kink thrown into an area she thought she had control over.”
Jerry’s alleged affair wasn’t the first test of their union, as they had a brief separation back in 1990 after 12 years of marriage, following the death of Judy’s father, dentist Murray Blum, whom she says gave her a lot of “emotional stroking” which she then demanded from her husband.
“I decided to change the rules of my marriage,” she said. “It was war. War is hell, we both became very unhappy.”
And despite his recent infidelity, she insists her marriage is solid, and she still has the hots for Jerry, adding: “He still looks great, he’s as sharp as ever.”
