Let’s get ready to rumble! Each week, WSFM’s Brendan ‘Jonesy’ Jones and Amanda Keller will battle out the big issues for New Idea. This round, it’s teen idols and which stars deserved more bedroom wall space than others…
Jonesy says…
I’ve only ever had two posters of my so-called idols on my bedroom wall. John Denver when I was 10 – taken straight out of the Sunday paper. And my parents weren’t impressed when I became a fully fledged member of the Kiss Army. I managed to secure a Kiss Destroyer album cover poster – again from the paper. It also came with an iron-on transfer that I tried to iron on my shirt myself, but ended up ironing it onto Mum’s ironing board cover. I thought at least she’d be happy I was ironing!
Amanda says…
I remember it like it was yesterday. The ‘change over’. For an entire year, Elton John had been looking down on me from my wall as I went about my 14-year-old life. It was pre-flamboyant Elton, dressed in a sedate blue jumpsuit. It was a little grippy around the meat and veg. But the day arrived when he was replaced with my new love: Barry Manilow. His spangly arms stretched to the sky. Now that was a jumpsuit! Sadly, I’d stuck Elton up with glue. He certainly left his mark… on the wall, if not my heart.
