Let’s get ready to rumble! Each week, WSFM’s Brendan ‘Jonesy’ Jones and Amanda Keller will battle out the big issues for New Idea. This round, it’s kitchen wars – good, old-fashioned cook-ups against speedy Thermomix sessions.
Amanda says…
‘I’d love to be one of those people who has friends sit around their kitchen bench sipping wine while they magically prepare an exotic feast from nowhere, made from just scraps of bits found in the fridge. Sadly, that’s not me. ‘I have no natural cooking ability or intuition. My husband says I measure ingredients like I’m mixing explosives. That’s why the officious, exacting Thermomix is my kitchen saviour. It has replaced all my other gadgets. I use it to chop stuff, weigh stuff, cook stuff, blitz stuff. If it could pick up the kids from school, I’d marry it.’
Jonesy says…
‘When it comes to cookery, I’m old school – pots, pans, stove and oven. I don’t even use a microwave that much anymore. ‘I’ve had gadgets in the past. I had one of those Flavorwave ovens that cooks stuff with a really bright lightbulb, and a George Foreman grill… I used to love the gravy you could make from the juice in the drip tray. All that stuff now resides in the back corner of my garage to give to my kids when they move out. Perhaps they can whip me up a meal when I’ve got three marbles rolling around in my head in years to come.’
