Husband of Jim Carrey’s late girlfriend Cathriona White is suing the actor for her death.
White died by suicide last year aged 30.
PEOPLE reports Mark Burton, who was still married to White when she died, filed a wrongful death suit against Carrey on Monday, alleging Carrey used his ‘immense wealth and celebrity status’ to obtain the prescription drugs that killed White.
Police found a text message in White’s phone from Carrey asking if she ‘knew where his painkillers went from under his sink.’
According to White’s autopsy report, released in July, ‘it appears likely that the bottles for ‘Arthur King’ found on her beside table were the prescriptions [Carrey] was referring to.’
Burton’s lawyer Michael Avenatti said in a statement to PEOPLE: “We look forward to the facts and evidence relating to Mr. Carrey’s conduct and role in the death of Ms. White coming to light.’
