Biggest Loser trainer Jillian Michaels has warned her fans of the dangers of rental scams after revealing she was extorted during a recent trip to Italy.
The fitness guru took to Facebook over the weekend to share her “terrifying” experience in a lengthy post.
“You guys know I keep my social pretty straight forward,” she began.
“But I feel compelled to ask you all to be VERY CAREFUL with any holiday rentals you book online.”
The 43-year-old went on to explain how she had committed to renting a yacht for $60,000 (US) for a 12-day trip along the Amalfi Coast, but when she arrived with her guests they found the vessel in “total disrepair.”
“The boat was shown in pictures as pristine,” she said.
“It was not only filthy, but it had no hot water, no air con when not docked, no wifi, partial electricity.”
But the damaged yacht was not the only issue they faced.
The issue quickly escalated when the health and wellness entrepreneur was “extorted for money.”
“This situation turned aggressive and threatening,” she confessed, adding that the group “literally feared for our safety.”
“Bottom line – this stuff is no joke.
“You could lose a lot of money and that sucks, but in some instances there is real danger.”
Later, Michaels appeared to be in much happier spirits, posting a smiling snap to Instagram.
She captioned it: “Focusing on what matters today: family, friends and good health.”
