With Jen Aniston and Brad Pitt spending more and more time together in the wake of his divorce from Angelina Jolie, it seems there are two people dead against the former couple’s renewed closeness – Lisa Kudrow and Courteney Cox.
The ‘furious’ actresses have lashed out at their former Friends co-star over her new relationship with Brad, angry that she’s putting her marriage to Justin Theroux at risk by allowing her A-list ex back into her life.
Lisa and Courteney are also said to be disappointed that Jen seems to have ‘completely forgotten’ about the pain Brad caused her after their marriage ended, and the lengths they went to in helping their broken friend rebuild her life after her 2005 split from Brad.
‘For years, Courteney and Lisa were there for Jen morning, noon and night after Brad broke her heart and they were a great comfort to her,’ says a source. ‘She has come so far in rebuilding her life and heart, and marrying Justin was the best thing she’s done.
‘But now that she’s spending so much time with Brad, Courteney and Lisa can’t help but think that she’s risking everything. She assures us that they’re just friends and that she’s helping him through a difficult time after the split and it’s all fine with Justin, but they can’t help but be worried.
‘What happens if Brad decides to dump Jen from his life like he did before? Lisa and Courteney, especially, know that it will be on them to help her pick up the pieces – which is frustrating to say the least.’
Indeed the strain could be seen on Lisa’s face during a recent night in LA, which sources say followed a series of heated phone conversations she had with Courteney and Jen.
‘They’d been speaking all day, trying to talk some sense into Jen, and it was really tiring,’ says an insider. ‘Lisa really loves Jen, and she just doesn’t want to see her hurt again.’
Their renewed efforts to stop Jen and Brad’s friendship from heating up comes amid reports that Jen has been spending time with him and the kids he shares with Angelina. US magazine In Touch reports that Jen visited Brad at his Los Feliz mansion recently to drop off an interior design book and had an impromptu meeting with four of her ex’s children.
‘It was a momentous day,’ a source tells In Touch. ‘The kids knew who Jen was and were familiar with her from TV and magazine photos, but they treated her like a normal friend of their father’s.’
Despite the apparent innocence of the meeting, it is easy to see why Courteney and Lisa are so worried.
‘Meeting his kids is just another level of closeness,’ says an insider. ‘No-one thinks there’s anything going on with Brad and Jen, but obviously they have a pretty big past.’
Jen has spoken openly on how she relied heavily on Courteney in particular after her split from Brad.
‘I’ve slept in her guest bedroom a lot,’ Jen told More magazine. ‘Without giving away too much of my private stuff, all I can say is she’s been there for me through thick and thin.’
She added: ‘There’s absolutely no judgement in Court. You’ll never feel scolded. She’s extremely fair, ridiculously loyal and fiercely loving.’
And despite her frustration over her pal’s renewed friendship with Brad, Lisa too spoke of her unbreakable Friends bond with Courteney and Jen.
‘[These are] people I spent every day with for 10 years and no matter how much time has passed or how much we haven’t been able to see each other, it doesn’t matter,’ she told Us Weekly.
Courteney, meanwhile, has always been a fierce supporter of Jen’s – publicly slamming Brad for being ‘attracted to Angelina’ while he was married to her best friend. And after his split from the Tomb Raider star, she refused to comment on Jen’s reaction to the news.
‘It’s not about [Jennifer],’ Courteney told Entertainment Tonight. ‘I feel like we’re exacerbating it by even talking about it.’
