Sydney radio presenter Jackie O has come out on top after a divisive on-air debate with radio colleague Bruno Bouchet over allegations Bruno made that Jackie O deemed sexist.
The heated debate was sparked on the Kyle and Jackie O show this morning after the show’s content creative manager, Bruno, said he thought that working Mums should be paid less because they put their kids first and others, like himself, have to pick up the slack.
He named Jackie O and another co-worker, saying that responsibility and how much effort someone puts into the company dictates how much an employee should be paid.
‘Responsibility is everyone doing the same amount of work. I’ve got to pick up the slack for you, I’ve got to pick up the slack for Krystal (another colleague). Why? Because you guys are putting your kids first and I’m sick of it,’ he said.
Jackie O fired right back, saying that: ‘You only ever notice when it’s the woman that needs to take the time off. Men need to take time off too.’
“It’s very outdated your views because these days we are sharing responsibilities… it¹s the men and the women that are sharing – whether we have to pick up the kid from daycare or if they’re sick.”
A fired-up Bruno didn¹t let-up, however, adding: ‘You guys shouldn’t get the same amount of money because you are not putting in the same amount of effort. Effort should be based on how much you do for the company.’
