They’ve been slammed by viewers for dishing out the lowest scores of the season.
But House Rules star’s Bec and Troy have hit back reports they were being “unfair”, explaining that it “could take them a year” to save enough money fix up their home.
SA couple Kate and Harry thought they were onto a winner with their Kim Kardashian-inspired bedroom for Bec’s 14-year-old daughter, but the pair copped a fail for their “basic” efforts and proceeded to plummet to the bottom of the leader board.
“The bonus room was Kim Kardashian inspired but all it had was some curtains on the ceiling and a little bit of wallpaper in the corner,” Troy told News.com.au.
“They could have taken it to the next level: a chandelier, some crushed velvet curtains. They could have jazzed it up a lot more.”
“It was okay but it wasn’t a pass for us.”
Tasmanian contestants Sean and Ella also found themselves the victim of Troy’s heavy criticism after they were given a two-out-of-10 for their “depressing” renovation of the ensuite bathroom.
“Sean and Ella were given the smallest room in the house (the ensuite bathroom.) And to enclose it all in black like that, it’s black on black on black… it’s too much black, it’s the only bathroom of the series that has two exposed walls that aren’t tiled,” Troy explained to the publication.
“It’s pretty much a nightmare ensuite.”
As a result, Troy, 46, and Bec, 39, are now faced with the prospect of needing replacement tiles in the bathroom, a process that he has estimates “won’t be cheap.”
But in a final blow, Troy has lashed out at Sean and Ella’s bedroom upgrade for Bec’s 12-year-old son Josh, berating the plywood used on the walls as “the cheapest stuff you can find.”
“Josh said on camera he liked the room, but off camera he told us he didn’t like it,” Troy revealed.
“He thought he had to be polite.”
While Troy admits that the couple have no regrets about quitting their jobs to appear on the show, he says that the poor renovation at the hands of Team TAS and Team SA have left them “with a lot of work to do.”
