‘We’re definitely battlers. That’s the title we’ve got from day one and we’re happy to have it,’ he says.

Now, Troy opens up to New Idea about the terrifying moment he feared for his life.

Just over a year ago, Troy was the victim of two armed robberies at a club where
 he worked as a supervisor.

‘I was working seven days a week in two clubs. I worked my way up to supervisor and there were two robberies and because I was the supervisor they came after me. It’s a quiet little club and we were easy targets,’ Troy painfully reveals.

‘It was the end of the night… They came in, their faces were covered and they were armed with knives and guns… When I figured out what was going on I s*** myself.

Things then went from bad to worse – Troy was physically harmed by one of the robbers.

‘I was assaulted,’ he says. ‘Because the club kept getting robbed, my bosses put in all these safes that were under a time delay. The robbers didn’t believe me so they started hitting me. They punched me in the jaw and the ribs – it was terrifying.

‘I pleaded with them that I couldn’t open it, but they didn’t believe me.’

Miraculously, Troy made it out alive, only to be robbed again. Shortly after, the full impact of the experiences hit him.

‘I thought I was alright, but it wasn’t until a couple of nights later that I didn’t feel safe at home. The whole experience traumatised me,’ he says.

‘When I look back, it changed my life a lot. It so badly affected me that I stopped working at the club and I’ve been doing whatever I can to pay the bills since then.

‘Being uneducated, to work my way up to supervisor was a real achievement. This experience took all that away from me.’
