House Rules surfing sisters Eliza and Mikaela have spoken about about their close relationship with their mother, but sadly the girls reveal that their father isn’t in their lives.

“Dad isn’t in our lives at the moment,” Mikaela tells New Idea.
But after her mother divorced, the idea for appearing on the show came to mind as a fun distraction.
“Mum had been through a divorce, and she purchased our family home, and Eliza and I were at the house one day and I think we were, we might have been watching the last season of House Rules and Eliza was standing by the fireplace and she mentioned to Mum in a passing comment almost, she was like “Oh, how cool would it be if Mikaela and I entered House Rules and we managed to get this house renovated and wipe the slate clean and give it a brand new face?” Mikaela reveals.
“Mum was like, “Oh, that would be amazing but …” I don’t think she really thought it would ever happen. We kind of just thought we’d apply and see how we went!”
Luckily for the girls their audition was successful and their mum is always at the forefront of their minds throughout the show.
“Mum has given so much to us financially, emotionally, all of that sort of thing. Mum literally has worked her tail end off to help us get to events. It’s just crazy. She’s really, really helped us out so much. This is the least that we could do. I’m 24, I’m turning 25 this year, and I have never been able to really repay Mum for any of the things that she’s been able to do for me financially and emotionally. All of the support that she’s given me, and the same with Eliza,” she says.
“I feel like it was high time, and we had an opportunity to repay the favour. It’s not really a sacrifice when we think about it like that. We kind of get enough back from it from just being able to help Mum.”
